About Fenua API
Fenua API is a bilingual developer service published in Papeete by Pacific Knowledge. It provides reference geographic data for French Polynesia.
The service
The documented REST API covers islands and atolls, communes, associated communes and public aerodromes. Its JSON responses use stable identifiers and report the API contract version separately from the DATA version.
How data is published
The active reference dataset is a snapshot generated and checked before import. The API does not query external sources at request time.
- The provenance registry records each source’s producer, licence, retrieval date and resource checksums.
- The pipeline checks schemas, identifiers, relationships, aeronautical codes and snapshot changes.
- A DATA version is approved before production import and remains documented for reference.
Transport data limits
The 95 air routes sourced from OpenFlights are historical records ending on 30 June 2014. The Tuhaa Pae IV maritime network sourced from OpenStreetMap is a research candidate. These records remain inactive, are hidden from default lists, and are neither current schedules nor operational information.
